Dear WOW supporters and friends,
We have reached our first goal!
Not
only did the WOW Casino Night help to push us
over our goal of $165,000 for the property
deposit, but within the last week many
individuals and businesses became new Charter
Elements. See
the
website for more information on becoming a
WOW Charter Element. There's only twenty-five
remaining so act fast!
Many thanks to those who contributed silent
auction items and in-kind donations to the WOW
Casino Night. Check out some of the
photos taken that night.
Six months ago we signed an option to lease
the building under the parking structure on
Sacramento Street in Downtown Lodi. Within those
six months we had to raise $165,000 and to the
surprise of many, we hit that goal and surpassed
it by over $10,000. We signed the lease
on Friday with Lodi’s Mayor, Bob Johnson, and
City Manager, Blair King.
Now the real physical work and major
fundraising begins. We have one year to do all
of the tenant improvements and procure exhibits.
From this point on we are embarking on a
million-dollar capital campaign to open the
doors of The World of Wonders Science Museum in
February of 2008. So much is needed. Once again
we are asking for your support not only with
donating time and money, but to spread the Word
of the WOW. Larry Underhill, president of the
Lodi Association of Realtors, put it perfectly:
“Think of San Francisco’s Exploratorium in our
own back yard!”
On
Saturday morning, the WOW’s Board, family
members and volunteers started
washing windows at the new museum site. Out
of the cold, a young man walked up and offered
to help. Kelly King, Clear View Window Washing
Service offered to professionally wash our
windows this coming week, free of charge! This
is just another example of an incredible person
walking into our world and offering his help to
make this dream a reality.
We can not thank this community enough for
believing in the dream of The World of Wonders
Science Museum. We have received donations from
as far away as Tuolumne, San Francisco, and
Aptos. Together we will all build this exciting
Hands-On Science Adventure for Our Children, Our
Community and Our Future.
