What Is WOW Makerspace?
WOW Makerspace provides an open exploratory learning environment for youth. It shares aspects of a science lab, shop class, home economics class, and art studio. It is a place for youth to Make, mixing high-tech and low-tech as they learn and explore.
How Does This Work?
WOW Makerspace will be open every Monday from 3:00-6:00 pm with a guided lesson available from 4:00-4:30pm. Students can work on their own projects independently, or collaborate with others. WOW Makerspace will be available through a monthly subscription service. Please click on the button below to submit a registration form. You can pay for the WOW Makerspace subscription in person, by telephone, or online with the links below. All makers will need to have a current Waiver and Release of Liability form on file.
The WOW currently accepts vouchers from the following charters:
- Rio Valley
- Connecting Waters
$50.00 – $60.00

- These projects seem fun, how can I do them at home or share them with others?
We will have kits available at the WOW store for purchase. Please let us know if there is something you want to see that we missed!
- Can we bring a friend/cousin/sibling as a guest?
Yes, you can bring a guest for a one-time fee of $40 ($35 for WOW members)
- Can I give a WOW Makerspace membership as a gift?
Yes, contact us at membership at wowsciencemuseum.org to set this up.
- What is the equipment loan program?
To keep costs at a minimum we will provide an equipment loan program for WOW Makerspace participants. Your monthly subscription cost covers consumables like art supplies, use of tools and facilities. The tech items such as Makey Makeys, Arduinos, and the specialty sensors will be checked out to participants for use during their project and can be returned at non-cost when finished with the project. In this way, participants can bring projects home to work on them outside of Makerspace time, to school to show them off and back to the WOW Makerspace to continue work.
- What if I fall in love with my creation and don't want to disassemble it at the end of the project?
We all get attached to our work sometimes. It is possible at the end of the project to buy the tech pieces should you choose not disassemble your project. A running list of parts/check out paper will be part of the participants project bin if you want to see what is checked out and the associated costs.
- Is membership to the museum included in this monthly cost?
Membership to the museum is not included in this cost. The monthly membership pays for the supplies, curriculum and other costs associated with the maker program and does not include membership to the main museum itself.
- Can adults come and sit in on the Makerspace sessions?
Unfortunately we do not have a Makerspace for adults at this time and adults who bring youth to participate will have to find other entertainment during the Makerspace session. Staying during the session time is not allowed, but arriving 5-10 minutes early to support your Maker's work in progress is encouraged.
- Do I have to attend every WOW Makerspace session?
There are no requirements for attendance to the WOW Makerspace. While there is a short skill lesson each week, the curriculum and space is designed so that students can work at their own pace within the Monday schedules. If a session is missed, a student worksheet will be available to share the information learned in the missed session. If a student feels they already have the information to be covered that week, they can choose to work independently at the space during the lesson on their own project.
